Um die optimale Spielqualität und den Zustand eines Instruments zu bewahren, sollte es nicht nur pfleglich behandelt werden, sondern auch regelmäßig zur Durchsicht gegeben werden. So können Probleme meist frühzeitig erkannt werden, bevor sie zu ernsthaften Schäden führen.

Modification to a left-handed instrument
Auch heute noch sind linkshändige Menschen in der Musik benachteiligt. Nur selten bietet Lehrpersonal den Unterricht „andersherum“ an, und nicht jedes Orchester begrüßt das linkshändige Spielen. Kommt es zur Wahl des Instruments, stehen viel weniger Instrumente zur Auswahl.

Service for Bows
The bow should also be serviced regularly, as it also needs regular cleaning and, depending on the amount of play, new bow hair approx. every 2 years. Only the finest Mongolian stallion hair is used for this. The leather that protects the stick from wear and tear also becomes thinner over time. The silver wrapping can also wear out and show signs of ageing. In this case, it can be replaced with the finest silver wire or silver thread on a nylon core. Single or two-tone threads can also be woven in to give your bow a very personal touch.
Minor repairs such as replacing the headstock are also carried out in the workshop.
When do I need new bow hair?
- If you constantly have to add rosin.
- If the response is no longer optimal.
- If you have to exert more and more force when playing.
Repairs
If major damage occurs due to an accident, incorrect storage or overloading, the instrument must be repaired to allow further playing and to avoid the risk of more serious consequential damage. Depending on the instrument, value and budget, the method of repair can be customised.
In the case of instruments of particular historical value, the original material is also preserved as far as possible. Old, unsightly traces of repairs can also be removed.
Soundpost patch
If too much pressure is exerted on the soundboard, for example in the event of a fall, the soundpost, which is clamped between the soundboard and the back inside the instrument, can push through the surface and cause a crack or even a large break. This requires special treatment, as it is an important and highly stressed acoustic center. For this repair, a lining is worked into the ceiling, which replaces the damaged material but is not visible from the outside. This preserves the stability of the acoustic center.
